Bodrum Iasos Ancient City
The first settlement in Iasos dates back to 3000 BC.
Public structures such as the theater, agora, and city council building within the city are notable.
The great city walls, aqueducts, tombs, and a structure known as the Fish Market are located outside the city walls.
The best-preserved structure of Iasos is the Bouleuterion (city council building), which was constructed in the 4th century BC.
Iasos, a 5,000-year-old fishing town, was once believed to have a macellum, or fish market. However, after archaeological excavations, it was determined that the structure is a Roman-period monumental tomb dating back to the 2nd century AD.
This area has been restored and opened to visitors in 1995 as the Fish Market Open-Air Museum.
